Oddity about magazine release

When I have a mag with any kind of rounds/snap caps in it, the magazine release doesn't have that click to it and the mag seems to sit kind of loosely.

When I have a round in the chamber or an empty mag I dont have either of those issues.

Any idea what I could potentially do to fix this?

Edit: seems to only happen when the slide is locked back as well

If the slide is locked back and there's any rounds in the magazine , the magazine release doesn't have any tension to it and the magazine fits a little loosely. It only happens if the slide is locked back and there is a round in the mag.

Well, if the slide is locked back and there's rounds in the mag, then there's no pressure from the slide on the rounds, and no pressure from the slide catch on the follower. So the mag release is really the only thing contacting it, and I would expect it to be a little loosey goosey.

But who cares? Why would you run about the 'hood with rounds in the mag and slide locked back?

What gun is it?

With the slide forward and a loaded mag in the gun the top round is pushing on the bottom of the slide and pushes the mag catch slot into the mag catch making it slightly stiffer.

If the slide is back the only pressure on the catch is from the weight of the mag, so obviously it's slightly less and the mag may wobble about a bit, as for when it's empty and the slide is back, the follower is pushing on the slide stop causing the same downwards pressure thus the extra tension on the mag catch. If that's whats happening it's nothing to worry about. When it's loose can you pull the mag out without pressing the mag release?

Edit: acm beat me to it.. I typed more garbage though so I win. Clearly.

I think it's a non-issue. The mag catch's job is just to retain the magazine, not make audible clicks or prevent the mag from wiggling.

If the mag did fit firmly, you would have more trouble removing the mag.

The need of the second hand to remove a mag is common on pistols designed for European use. North American's tend to want the mags to fall free of the well with a push of a button.

Please. The sentence "Why would you run about the 'hood..." is worth at least 560 Internet Pointz.

Unfortunately, my being home at 2230 on a Saturday is worth negative 900 Real Life Points, so all in all, I should just go to bed.
