im looking at getting a norinco m14 from marstar once they get thier new shipment in. i just have a couple questions regarding the norincos and marstar themselves.

the m14 will take store-bought .308 ammunition correct? also, anything major i should take into consideration for this purchase such as quality, since there are many horror stories about the soft-chinese metal. have these problems been fixed?

i plan to keep the mystery-wood stock, ill just probably put some fresh stain on it. is this a bad idea?

lastly, marstar doesnt accept master card. am i SOL? should i just buy from Dark instead?

have one

got 3 rifles and a pistol very happy with all. m14 is fine 500 rounds through it no problems at all, very nice for the money. I stick with surplus though, cheaper.

marstar takes mastercard now. The norcs will feed most .308 rounds. I wouldn't use anything 180 grain and over though as it's pretty hard on them. You get what you pay for with these guns. The fit and finish isn't top quality but they are reliable and great for just messing around. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one and have been seriously considering buying another.

These isues have been covered a 100 times,

It will take store bought ammo, but get yourself lots of australian, portugese, or cdn surplus if you can find it.

get a USGI fibreglass stock asap

and I remember the advise someone gave me when I asked these same questions, dont buy one, buy two...

I was just looking at in the black rifles forum at the thread " remember when you could hunt with your ar-15" and someone posted an old add for Brit FN L1A1 for 200.00 bucks... which we cant buy now... these 14s's are the closest your ever going to get, and inanother ten years if things keep going the way they are now, well be posting pics of adds for the m14s and saying, remember when we could actually shoot those, and they where so cheep too.....

To add to spryan:
Had BOTH the Norinco M14 and the FN L1A1 (sold the M14 cuz I needed some cash and wasn't shooting it much anymore, still have the L1A1 cuz it is a prohib and don't want to GIVE it away) and the Norinco M14 is a little MORE accurate than the FN (this is MY personal experience, those of you who disagree, go ahead and post... BOTH rifles were bone stock).

The Norinco M14 is a great deal, a solid rifle based on a time proven action. And the action, invented by John C. Garand, who was born in Canada, makes it even more attractive.

You simply can NOT go wrong with this M14 clone.

Now, onto a CPC gov't and 20 round mags once again, which is what the M14 deserves... ;)

Honestly, you can't go wrong with a Norinco M14. It's accurate, works well, not too hard to clean, priced well and shoots relatively cheap ammo. The only real downside is that you can't take the flash hider off because it's welded on, but that's not a huge issue overall. Oh, and there's no bayonet lug on them either.

If you live in Vancouver, give Lever Arms a call and see if they still have any Norinco .308 Winchester ammo left. It's good stuff.
