Any users of this Chronograph??

I am interested in knowing what your findings were with respect to entering the barrel dimensions (inner and outer) for strain gage use. The problem is getting an accurate measure of the ID. I suppose UT would be the best but, I seldom have access to one unless its at the office...

Measuring a fired casing is possible but its easy to enter false information into the software and you know the story....garbage in, garbage out....

I hear you Dan. You have to position the gage ideally exactly were the strain gage is. For most cartridges, you would need fairly long hole gages..to keep the axial location correct a suppose a collar could be used for reference.............I suppose it could be done......

Maybe matching the strain gage to the hole gage is the way to go....instead of the other way around....I.E. find a good spot on the barrel with the hole gage and then position the strain gage to that location....

Measure the OD of a fired case corresponding to the position of your strain gauge, and add 0.001 in. to your measurement to account for that amount of spring back in the brass.

Ted - they are dropping the 35P. I understand the 43 and next one up will be the only production units.

"thecollector" measuring a fired case and adding a thou is a good ballpark, but I was wanting to know more precise ways. So far using a known dia. hole gage that will place you onto the cylindrical portion of the barrel sounds like the best way. From my limited experience with UT, I believe the units I have used may not have gone down to +/-.001.

The more I think about it, I think I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill. Interesting, the Oehler rep wasn't able to give me some ball park errors by inputing incorrect IDs....

One other concern is that the 43 requires a computer (all the time) ....laptop which then means power (since most laptops have limited usage on their original batteries)........

The 35P although limited, sure is more convenient. I guess it means a guy should buy both:eek:
