I'm not sure why everone keeps thinking the 338 WM is such a cannon, it really isn't. With a well designed stock and a good pad, the felt recoil isn't much more then a 30-06. I would get one for your style of hunting (I already have one for my style of hunting), and have at it. With the lighter bullets, you can get some fairly impressive velocities, and with the heavier bullets, you get great penetration. And really, it makes bigger holes, which is always better. - dan
