It looks like I'm in good company... the front sight on my M305 is off kilter just like the one on the M1A that R. Lee Ermey shot in this video (@ 31:25).

Had to tell from the pic ....look at the rifle from the front and see if the gas system is tilted to the side as well ..
The best way to tell if its a barrel indexing issue is to use 2 straight indicator bars mounted on the heel of the receiver and the flat surface on top of your front sight .
Anything that is straight will work....I use 3 sections of m-305 cleaning rods on the front and back...I have seen a guy use carbon arrows as well.
Once they are on the rifle take a look at them from the front and back and see if they are aligned properly.

This is a front gas locking ring I received with one of my rifles !!

Ouch, that's a nasty looking locking ring!

The picture is Ermey's rifle... not mine. :d

My barrel seems indexed OK when you look at the feed ramps... it looks like the flash hider has been partly pooched.
I'm hoping to catch up with Barney for one of his clinics at some point.

I did some digging a while back when I got my M305 and believe it or not, Springfield won't warranty that on an M1A because they state that is within their factory specs.

I believe the warranty kicks in if the front sight has to exceed the mount. The mount is larger that the sight by design, so you can fine tune it as required. Every rifle is a tad different...

Too early in the morning for posting .. I took a fast look at the pic and didn't even realize it was a video ..lol
Don't go by the feed ramps to check for barrel indexing the best way is the way I mentioned ...easy peasy .
And any of Barney,s clinics are highly recommended...my problem is he has fed my M-305 addiction and now its spread to CQB and precision clinics / matches as well .My credit card is still smoking ...lol

My SAI standard is off center to the right as well but looking down the barrel the sight post appears to be centered with the barrel and top groove of the flash hider so I'm not concerned about it. And as long as it isn't hanging off the sight base it's obviously in spec.
