off the shelf .308 ammo for N14

hey boys,
looking at picking up another m14 , but i cant get hold of any of the usual SA surplus that we get here.
what do you fells use for hunting in your norcs ? .. not handloads, factory ammo

I have had excellent results with 150 and 165 gr. Federal Fusion rounds.

Federal 150 grain soft points and Federal 150 grain ballistic tips. Both shoot very accurately through my M14's.

If you want to hunt, look at the fusion, and core lokt 150/165. Try them all until you find one your gun likes, then shoot only that. Each of those will work well on deer.

The norinco 308 ammo is good. Shot a few sea-lions with no problems.

Let the rifle do the picking ... try lots of different brands, and don't be surprised if your 14 prefers one type over all the rest. I've seen the same 14 shoot 1 1/2" to 5" with no other change than ammo.

PS: check the headspace and bolt lockup before getting too carried away with .308 ammo, and as said, stay under 168 Gr bullets.

PS: my wife and I are planning a LONG trip to NZ and AUS`next year ... maybe I could ship you down all my guns, and you could hold them for me till we get there??

Mine shoots under 1 MOA with Federal MatchKing 168 HPBT. Most of the other stuff shoots about 4 inches at 100 Meters.

Winchester silver box 150 gr Power points. At $18 a box it's the cheapest stuff around here. Then I reload the brass.

I am suprised people are using FMJ rounds for hunting. I didn't think you were allowed to use non expanding bullets for hunting. Then again I could just be ignorant on the issue.

Another for Federal 150gr soft points. I haven't put enough through to claim what the actual grouping are (my rifle shoots better than me with irons), but I can make the statement that it provides "deer of accuracy"
