I went to Canadian Tire in Toronto today and they said they are not selling any more ammunition. Not even pellets for air guns. I asked if it was just that store and he said most of the stores in Toronto are doing this right now and by next year they all will! Crazy! In the States you can still buy guns, let alone ammunition at any Walmart!

Here in Oshawa they still sell ammo at Crappy Tire. I am thinking there will be a huge sale on ammo when the few remaining Can Tires get ride of their stock. Keep your eyes open!

Crappy Tires are franchises, so the owners can do / sell what ever they want. The Canadian Tire in south Calgary for example has a large inventory of guns and shooting / hunting accessories. Unfortunately for you it sucks living in / near Miller's World.

Which crappy tire is this? I will have to visit when I am back for Xmas break.

The stores in brampton said they are phasing out the ammo,
once its sold its gone for good. Except I went to one in brampton
2 days ago and it was fully restocked,

Oh and they also ask for your home address when buying ammo, so
they can write it in there little book. I was able to read the addresses
of about 4 shotgun owners in my area. No concept of customer securty at all.

But im sure they were all fake addresses just like mine!

Actually a franchise has rules and you can't sell whatever you want. I know people that own a few Mr. Subs and you can't even buy your lettuce from anyone but "head office". Franchises have many restrictive rules.

Canadain Tire executives have had their heads up their asses since the mind 90's.

I remember when they first decided they would or could no longer support the sale of firearms in their stores and a so-called boycott was organized by the firearms organizations of the time.

It had some success but as usual we, the fireamrs owners, capitualted and went back to supporting them.

So maybe we are the idiots?

A restaraunt and a retail outlet are completely different. Canadian Tire fanchisees do have the choice of carrying firearm related items. I believe the one in Prince Albert even has some reloading stuff if I remember correctly.

-Often young/junior/or just plain stupid staff at any store will trod along all happy, with their heads up their a---s, blindly serene in their ignorance. I once overheard a kid working in a downtown Toronto Canadian Tire tell the customer ahead of me that they didn't sell ammunition, because it was a criminal offence for anyone to own/possess any ammunition in downtown Toronto! This was about 8-10 years ago, long before mayor McCheesy and his anti-gun witch-hunt.
-When I got to the counter I politely informed him that he was wrong and asked where he got such a silly idea...his boss in the CT sports department told him? He also very condescendingly (he was a snotty little prick) told me that I was wrong and that it was illegal, and that I could be charged if I had any. I then just as politely asked where in his complete ignorance of law did he get the idea that FEDERAL criminal law allowed for legal ammo possession everywhere else in Canada, but not downtown Toronto? Had Toronto formally seceded from the rest of Canada (I could only wish...). Was every Toronto Police officer in violation of federal law by carrying ammo on duty?
-I further told him that if he enjoyed his job and his store liked staying in business he should probabaly avoid providing customers free, and clearly incorrect, legal advice. The Toronto businesses that lawfully sold ammunition alone, could easily take offence to being called criminals by a competitor.
-Now, outside of Toronto, & back in Canadian civilisation, the Kenora Canadian Tire has an excellent selection of firearms, ammo, reloading supplies, components, & tools. Very nice place to see when in Kenora.

IMHO based on the CDN Tire stores around here, they could stop selling ammo and it wouldn't matter for me.

They never have anything decent in stock, the prices are a bit on the high side, and finding someone who has the key for the cabinet and knows how to "fill in the book" are always major issues. Same thing goes for the Walmarts.

I'd sooner pay an extra $1 a box and support the local mom and pop shop. They typically know their stuff better and have a better selection.

all the CT's in NB sell ammo, walmarts too. decent selection of common calibers.

what i find odd though, is that (at least here in moncton) they dont sell 223 which is a fairly popular sporting round. I remeber last winter when i got my first AR15, I went to both canadian tires, and both wal-marts, and NEITHER carried 223 nor had the appropriate empty spot sitting on their shelves. Both had .222 and .22-250 though.

My store just remerched the ammo/gun case. Lots of new winchester xp3 stuff coming in. I just received my special order for 300wsm.

It is up to the dealer if they want to sell ammo or not. My store where I work will always have ammo, as wally world is trying to compete (thats why we know have more shotgun ammo by the case).

This is probably a long shot, but does anyone have a list of Canadian Tire stores that sell ammo?

A few in Scarborough still sell ammo, including handgun ammo, but like most of what CT sells, it is over priced. Plus I don't trust the punk kids working there with the "Ammo Book" where they take down your info. None of the three listed carry firearms, air guns, or pellets/bb's.

There is:
-Cederbrae Mall (Lawrence and Markham)
-Rylander Blvd (in the Port Union - 401 area)
-Danforth and Kingston (or maybe it is at St. Clair and Kingston. Kingston Rd. crosses several other streets in the area). At any rate it is across from R.H. King Academy.

EDIT:
The Pickering location on Brock Rd, and the Ajax location at Salem & Highway 2 have ammo and airguns/pellets.

I hope the people that are saying this Canadian Tire employee is full of it are right! This fear of guns is getting ridiculous! Not that I shop for ammo at Canadian Tire very often but it's just a step in the wrong direction.

Well, if it's a case of the ammo not selling, you could understand the store wanting to use the space for other merchandise. With stores like Bass Pro, LeBaron and online stores selling for less, I'm not suprised CT ammo doesn't move very quickly.

I remember one store I was in there was a couple boxes of 12 guage shells and the box looked yellowed, discoloured and water stained. Who knows how long it had been sitting there.

P.S. - I've never been to Gagnon out your way, what are there prices like?
