Ohaus 10-10

You can pick up an MTM electronic scale for that price.

Used beam scales can have some issues with the knife edges on the beam pivots and worn, rounded seats in the ways they pivot on.

I saw a similar scale at the last gun show and it had been well cared for but likely stored with the beam balance knives in the ways.

The scale would read the set up weight of 50 grains +-2 grains differently every time.

It's almost impossible to detect this condition, unless you can actually put a weight on it and get consistent readings on the scale zero strip.

that is a very fair price imo.
i think in good condition it should fetch at least 70 bucks.

Does it come with the clear cover?
If so then it is most likely that it was always stored with the beam off the bearings.

I'd buy it, most likely a much better scale than any digital one 3 times the price.

I paid $150 for a NIB one last year. They are excellent scales as long as they are in good working order. I had a 5-10 that wouldn't hold 0 even though it looked really clean. My buddy has a Lyman 10-10 that looks beat to heck and it still holds zero so just check it. I use me camera on my phone, place my phone in front of the scale and zoom in allowing a viewing screen of the needle. Works great, can see every kernel of varget, etc like that on my 10-10. I really like the good balance style scales.

I had a tuned one on EE last year the buyer ghosted me so I still have it - I bought a BNIB RCBS 5-0-5 scale that ai use for reloading now. Will never go back to a scale that will be affected by an EMP

I ditched all my digital scales for reloading - i use a honking huge magnifying glass to see the needle - I also balance my beam scale on a 12x12 piece of wood before I use my scale works like a charm

Yes, the cover is still with it. I’m going to give it a better looking over, sounds like I should buy it. I’ve already got an rcbs beam scale and a digital but not a 10-10 lol.

I bought a 10-10 many moons ago, and used it to load a lot of ammo.
It has proven reliable and accurate. I still have it, but it is retired in
favor of a RCBS 304 beam scale that I like even better. $59.00 is a
very attractive price if it is in good shape. Dave.

So I had a closer look at it, I feel that the knife edges are worn. I set it on a level surface, leveled the base, checked the zero of the beam and weighted cup etc. Very erratic results, once the beam was zeroed I tapped it lightly and it would read high, tap it again and low. Then bang on zero again, it would repeat this even with the 250gn check weight.

Is the knife edge replaceable, I noticed the notch it sits in and pivots on has screws for removal but not sure if the knife edge is the same. So far it’s not looking like it’s worth it.

check to see everything is clean in and around the bearing blocks first, a little bit of dust can do this.

also check where the copper plate at the end of the beam runs through gor cleanliness.
a little metal filing stuck to the magnet can cause problems.

Bearing blocks were clean looking, the knife edges had a bit of wear once I scraped off some grime with my fingernail. I could see and feel some worn uneven spots on one side, the rest of the beam looked fine. Nothing bent or rubbed, did some Google search and it doesn’t look like replacement parts are available anymore. Rcbs has discontinued their 10-10 version, I already have a digital scale and a new in box old stock rcbs 5-0-5 that zeros so I’m guessing this will be more hassle than it’s worth in the end unfortunately.
