Hey guys, I went for screws at ct, and glanced over at the gun rack and saw they were still selling for 220. Had a peek and it looks like a sanded stock mixmaster. Overall vg condition. The stock was sanded and given an oil cost. Was wondering if I can just shellack over the oil finish or do I gotta strip it in order for the shellack to bond? They forgot to sand the finger grooves so it looks kind of silly.

Oil finishes look nice to me and easy to maintain by just rubbing in more oil. I'd probably just sand out the finger grooves if you don't like them and adjust anything else to your taste then put a few more coats of oil on it till it looks good.

shellac will bond over oil no problem. but those darker finger groves still will be way darker than your new shellac. bullseye brand shellac, even amber, is pretty light colored.
