This is the way I think I need to go, I can get the action and bottom metal I want, but who in Canada can do a stock like this (sans the checkering) and this well?

I was bitten by the same bug, but I managed to find one on the EE here instead, for a very good price. I believe I saw another one recently on there in the $1200 range, which might not make you turn green if you're considering a custom gun anyways. That was over my price range.

Another option is the ruger m77 international or the fullstock model 550 by CZ, both can be had for roughly $1000 mrsp according to their websites.

If you're looking to spend less than this then getting one on the EE would be your best bet. If you REALLY want to spend the money and have it custom so it's all your own, good luck and have fun! :)

A final option would be to buy a rifle with a military stock such as the yugo mausers Marstar has for sale, or something similar. You can then have a gunsmith just shave the wood down to lighten it and recrown the barrel at 20 inches or so, and you'll have a full stock sporter right there. I think that's what someone did with the one I purchased.

P.S. sorry I don't have any information about who to send the rifle to for work, I just used the local gunsmith in my city for things like that, but I thought the info might be useful.

A very highly respected craftsman.

He has made up two custom mannlichers for me and many more for his other customers.

Well I am suitably impressed by that. Nice looking.

Thanks for the other suggestions as well, I thought about Martini, but a cadillac would suit me more than a Rolls, I plan on using this rifle, and something way to nice (or expensive) would kill me when its gets a ding. I'll check the other guys out.

I had Wilcox customize my BSA 1917 Enfield for me, must be about 25 years ago now. Good guy, and obviously has really mastered his craft.

It's showing a tad bit of use...

It kinda increasingly ground on me every time I got a scratch on it, and I finally got myself a great deal on a Vanguard .300 WM from a friend that became my go-to rifle.

Wow. do you have more detail on this rifle? It's outstanding! I'm not normally a huge fan of the Mannlicher stock but when they're well executed they are quite beautiful.

Id do it....but I'm booked until March 2012 :(

Send a PM to Bullseye....he had a stock made by another maker that he sent to me for a repair, and I was VERY impressed by the man's work. Sorry I can't remember the craftsman's name, but I certainly remember his skill :)

Thanks W.W.
Here are some examples I got from his website. Since the one I sent to you he has made me one more for my Anschutz 1712. As far as custom stock prices go he is very reasonably priced and does excellent work. New wood blanks have just been added to his website and they are awesome!!!!

Not many details. I saw the rifle not long after my friend acquired it. About all I can recall was that it is an original Oberndorf sporter Mauser 98 in .30-06 with the full length stock. The stock was still in one piece but looked pretty tired. Rather than have it refinished, he decided to have the original duplicated.
