Playing around with upgrading my Crosman 1377.

1. Has anyone recrowned the Crosman factory barrel, say 11deg.? Really dont want to spend the money on a Walther barrel.

2. Also going to lap the barrel.

2. Contemplating glass bedding the long breech kit on.

Wondering if any have gone this far and did you find a difference.

Lots of people recrown with lapping compound and a round head brass screw, the barrels are good but tend to do better with a recrown.

Glass bedding the breech will do nothing. No Airgun be it precision or high end, has the breech glass bedded. It only going to make a a mess, and have the transfer port not seal well.

You could add a second setscrew to secure the barrel into the breech, also there is a liner that goes between the barrel/pump tube.

I fixed some bad Chinese airgun barrels, by just using a brass screw and lapping compound. Honestly Crosman barrel crowns are not that bad.

This is was my PP700SA.

I just took delivery of my 1377 with the Crosman stock and trigger screw yesterday.

For my own don't laugh bit - I didn't have any hex wrenches small enough to tighten the set screws on the trigger shoe, so I just hot-glued the sucker on. (In hindsight, some white glue would have been better and less messy).

Speaking of stock wobble, that can be fixed with a couple pieces of masking tape and a cut up wide rubber band - one piece of tape wrapped around the bottom of the metal grip frame to snug it up in the slots of the stock portion of the pistol grip, and taping a small strip of the rubber band in piece in the beavertail of the grip portion to shim it against the bottom of the air reservoir.

Anyone have any tips for pumping it past 4-5 pumps? Not only does the pump effort go up, but the pump handle doesn't feel like it's particularly happy taking that amount of force.

Hi Chanman - I have a 1322 that I modded the pump handle on, cause I didn't like the feel or the amount of effort to go past 5-6 pumps. I took a piece of electric conduit that was bent in a curve, flattened a bit of it to accept the pump lever and bolted it on. Luckily I have lots of nuts, bolts, etc. so I could make something work. I often pump up to 15 + pumps. If you research on airgun sites you'll find this is common practice, both mods and 'over-pumping'. It will wear out the innards eventually, but they're 'over-built' so that may take a long time unless you shoot hundreds of shots each time you're out. I get bored after 30-50. :p

I believe another mod is to replace the roll pin with a solid pin that the pump handle / arm pivots on.

The steel breech is also an option to make the action more rigid.

I’ve got a 1322 with the steel breech on the way. Ran out of marbles for the sling shot shooting at grackles and crows in the garden. This should be more productive.

Right on Swish. Good thought. I forgot to add that pin replacement. Steel breech and maybe some extended bolt would help. depends on how much he wants to spend. I found marbles at a Dollarama a couple years ago - $1 for 100 - I got about 1200, all they had in two stores in Halifax. another alt is to use the flattened glass 'things' they use in decorative crafts, come in different colors. About $2 now for like 50 or so, still cheaper than bearings. I'll bet they hummmm when they fly ;-)
