So I went with the general concensious, and picked up a Ruger M77 Hawkeye from Russel Sports this Morning in .30-06. It just felt too good not to have. I like the way it points and balances, and the scope mounts as a freebie were nice too. That saved me at least a few bucks if I went with another model. I mounted a Leupold 3-9, and hopefully will get the chance to get it down to the range tommorow. Thanks all for your input.

Let me know if you go to the range tomorrow. Probably gonna head down there myself, got a bunch of stuff that needs to be done! :D

You made a very sensible decision pharaoh2 :D There is an old saying that goes something like this..."there ain't many things that a man can't fix, with $700 and a .30-06.." The money part may be a bit shy in todays world, but you get the picture ;) Now we need to see range pic's of the new family addition :)

Yeah, but if that saying originated in the last 5 decades, it would've been the 308 and ten grand, not 30-06 and $700 :p

My vote is for the Tikka T3 but I prefer and will suggest the Laminate Stainless model. I have 2 in 270WSm and a buddy has it in a 300WSM, plus a Varmint Stainless 22-250 and a 223 in the Tactical model. All great shooters.

Pics of my rifles have been posted before, I think in another Tikka rifle post.

you will be hard pressed to find a more practical hunting rifle for Canada than a stainless synthetic ruger M77 chambered in 30-06. good pick, I like these new Hawkeyes
