Inspired by ... making loud noises, here is my first AR. The laundry list:

- SOCOM MFG BR-15 billet lower
- DPMS parts kit, with JP Ent spring set
- ACE SOCOM stock
- Tromix .50AE "Sledgehammer" upper
- Ergo grip (really comfortable, ambi)
- Leupold CQ/T festooned with a J-Point as a BUOS ;) and tiny laser
- 3-Bucc brass catcher - works great, easy on/off.
- Harris bipod

Everything went into the lower just like that, perfect fit. The online build guides are great. Upper is tight. Target below. This will be a great pin-gun in carbine class, and should move the poppers decisively in multi-gun matches.

First, say hello to my big friend:

Tromix does great work - the upper build quality is excellent:

One sweet lower:

Which has built-in takeup and overtravel adjustments - makes the DMPS trigger feel like an expensive match trigger. It has some other features, but this one is the most immediately useful:

And here we are, with Hornady 350gr XTP's at 50 yards, no load development, 26.5gr of AA 4100, unprepped Starline brass and Fed primers. That's about .5" centre-to-centre on the 4-shot cluster, and I wasn't trying that hard, just testing function. I've shot it at 100 yards as well, and you can see the holes with only the CQ/T's 3x capability:

Damn. I'm impressed. I thought 9mm AR's were cool but you kinda upped it up a notch, eh? I wonder how much jewelry i'd have to flog to afford that.... if i did decide on one, how hard are the parts to get?

The only part that you would have to import would be the upper and mag conversion kits (a piece of delrin and a follower). The rest of it could be any old AR parts.

The upper is from http://www.tromix.com/Sledgehammer.htm . The .50AE is off the page (don't know why), but certainly the .458 SOCOM would help you wake up in the morning.

Tony Rumore is the man behind Tromix - call and ask about a .50AE upper - he'll build it any way you want, flattop, riser, slickside, whatever - then call Questar to get things going - it's a part, not a gun, so that simplifies things.

can you post more pics form the range when you get time, thanx.

To see this gun in action, have a look at this video (8mb).

The first two segments, "heavy carbine", are this gun (wielded by me).

The rest of it is other pin shooting - great fun.

I'll be using the .50AE upper in the next local IDPA multi-gun. I won't be fast... but I'll have the biggest bore there  .
