I had a fantastic dinner tonight. I made quinoa salad - quinoa with apples, fresh ginger, lime zest and cashews tossed in a dressing of olive oil, lime juice, salt and balsamic vinegar. I also made a tomato, red pepper and walla walla sweet onion salad with a home made vinaigrette which had olive oil, apple cider vinegar, salt, sugar and dill. And of course there was an absolutely huge prime rib steak. The steaks were about 2" thick.

I fired up the charcoal BBQ with good old fashion lump charcoal and mesquite charcoal. I grabbed a bunch of rosemary from the garden and threw it into the mill with some coarse Mediterranean sea salt. The BBQ was so hot that my arm hairs were singed just by getting within 3' of the darned thing. I sprinkled some of the rosemary salt onto the steaks and flung them onto the BBQ.

Let me tell you all something - the steaks seared and gave off an aroma that elicted a reaction from me that would have made Pavlov smile.

When the steaks were done I took them off and threw a bunch of 1/2" thick slices of orange on the grill. Those got some nice grill marks on them and the citrus oils began to burst a wonderful aroma. I laid everything onto plates and my peeps and I dug in.

I should add that about 4 hours before all of this I made a mixture of: 2 bottles of chilled Besso de Vino red wine, 1 cup of rum, 1 pound of rainier cherries, a couple of gala apples sliced up, 2 oranges sliced up , 1 lime and 1 lemon sliced and a good splash of cointreau. I also put about 1/2 cup of sugar into this mixture. This my friends, when chilled appropriately is what the Spaniards call Sangria. :)

So, after eating my fill and having a fair amount (as in all the Sangria is gone) of libations to stave off the heat, I have come to the following conclusions about rifles, chamberings and other relevant musings:

  1. A .243 is inadequate for deer sized game. It just simply does not have adequate SD to reach the vitals from all angles.
  2. Kimbers are not accurate.
  3. A Swarovski is a waste of money when a Vortex or Leopold will do the same job.
  4. You should only kill things you will eat.
  5. Buckshot is ideal for bear defense.
  6. The Liberal Party of Canada under Justin Trudeau may be a viable alternative, but only if Trudeau the Younger can convince Alan Rock to return to politics.
  7. The .223 is a good chambering for deer sized game because modern bullets, especially the monolithics, make up for lack of SD.
  8. The recent Supreme Court of Canada decision to grant Aboriginal Title to the Tsilhqot’in Nation finally shows that Canada is a just and equitable country.
  9. Remington's trigger woes (past and present) will be the end of the company.
  10. Please PM me if you have a short action NULA for sale.

I may have missed a few points, but I'm sure someone will rectify the error.

Hope you all had a good weekend
;)

1. Steak size starts at 10 ounce - 6 ounce steaks are trainers.
2. Sangria alters your judgement and supplies one with a large headache - stick to Mojitoes for a clear head in all aspects.
3. Life isn't fair and I'm glad I won't live forever.
4. Figured wood is far better than plastic.
5. Indians are the last free people in Canada.
6. Buck shots are a thing of the past, just like 5 cent beers.
7. 243 is underpowered for deer, and kills only the biggest bucks.
8. A sharp pocket knife is your best friend.
9. Antihunter's need to be outlawed.
10. Please PM me if you have a black powder cannon larger than .75 cal for sale.

Is this the booze talking? If not, I see a rope and stool in your future. :)

You stumbled down the ladder IMO

1 . 243 is bigger than 223 yet 243 sucks 223 is good to go ???!!??
2. I've shot accurate kimbers
3. Agree
4. Disagree . One word livestock protection ... Ok 2 words
5. Agree . Has buckshot ever killed any deer ??? It's meant for geese
6. Liberals are a weird twisted folk . Should be named sheep head group
7. Answer 1
8. I'll keep rant short and hope not to get the boot . Any nation that is conquered by another should be subject to or equal to said conquerer . The blacks and Chinese are happy to no longer be slaves and have become a helpful cog to society .
9. The government will be the end to Remington and other manufactures
10. Pm me if you need some chainsaw or garden needs? ??!? That count ?

I think you should drink less, .243 is okay for deer at reasonable ranges, and even moose at 100 yards or less with the right bullet...but a .223 shouldn't
be used for hunting anything but varmints. Liberals are anti gun morons, trudeau jr included, buckshot is for deer where it's the only thing you can use...Indians should be stripped of their reserves and treated just like any other Canadian, same rights and privileges...period. Remington will get their act together and be just fine in the long term. Kimbers are decent rifles. You guys in PG getting summer yet? :-D

Lol...ah, good times. You know when you wake up in the middle of the night and think = "why are all of these cotton balls in my mouth?".

I see some of you may have taken my post seriously...don't worry Supercub, you won't be needin' no rope and stool! :)

Yep... some missed the irony...

The Liberal Party of Canada under Justin Trudeau may be a viable alternative, but only if Trudeau the Younger can convince Alan Rock to return to politics.

I know this was meant as a joke ... but lets please not forget how Alan Rock as justice minister was attempting to revoke a right that free people have enjoyed for centuries and that can be traced as far back as the Magna Carta (and probably earlier)... as a Minister of Justice he should have been pitied for his stupidity.... as a lawyer - he should have been pilloried! Dear Alan had legislation proposed that would have permitted entry, search and seizure WITHOUT WARRANT if firearms were SUSPECTED to be on the premises. Certainly a more dangerous man to the basic principles of freedom from unlawful search and seizure never existed since King John and the later star chamber. Just for the record ... not finding a firearm BUT finding evidence of any other crime (as long as the officer acted "in good faith" apparently) would allow prosecution of the other crime! .. Talk about a license for a fishing expedition! Anyway .. Alan Rock is best left where he is.

Aside for enjoying the obvious sarcasm I'm left incredibly hungry after reading this in spite of the lack of bacon.

Ps...sangria is awesome, just never mix with rum, lol. :)
