Ok Weatherby haters line up!

I have had quite a few over the years, they are one of my favorite rifles. I really like the mark V actions. Hoping to have a 416 some day like the one in the post above.

Pretty good, 3 pages and not much bad. Really liking this 378, thought it felt light and handy. It’s got a 24” barrel! Perfect. Looking like a hunting gun.

Used to own a Japanese model with no brake and lighter contour barrel and it was one of the nastiest rifles I have ever fired from the bench. Granted it had a Pendleton brake, but a .460 I had at the same time was more pleasant off the bench with the old "elephant" factory ammo. Darn, I miss that .460 :)

Haha O kinda miss my .460s. Although the converted No.1 was really nasty. This one is Japanese and has a thin 24” barrel. It does have a brake though. Thinking I’ll chrono the factory ammo to see how it matches what they advertise.

If the OIC gets reversed by the CPC, I'm buying another .460 lol
Would be interested in your velocity results. Never got around to chrono mine.

I've owned them in .257 Wby, 7mm Wby and .300 Wby. I liked them all! I loaded the .257 with 75gr X bullets (pre-TSX) and was just under 4000fps - 3980 if I recall correctly. I shot a nice whitetail with it from just over 100 yards - maybe a bit more (it was a long time ago) and the wound channel was very interesting - almost like a plug of tissue had been removed along the bullet path.

With the .300 Wby I loaded 200gr Partitions with IMR 7828 and that load was just over 3000 fps with my 26" barrel and just under 3000 in my friend's 24" barrel. What a load!

I used to really like the Euromark, with the oil finished stock. I also REALLY wanted the MkV "Whitetail", which was in the catalogue but I don't think it ever went to production. It was the 6 lug version of the Mk.V in .250 Savage.

Yes I really liked the Euromarks too. Had a couple of .270s, a few .300s and a couple of .340s. None in Weatherby rifles. Only the big ones in Mark 5s. I did shoot a couple of Mulies with my 338/378 way back. Even with the brake off it was big and not handy. 26” American made so slightly heavier barrel. 210 tsx at 3450, good deer load.🙂

My son owns 7 Weatherby rifles, however he cannot put down his Cooper rifle when it comes to big game hunting. I've owned a few Weatherby's myself, and still have one in the safe. I only conducted load development with it and it's begging me to bring it hunting............maybe for my next antelope or mule deer hunt.

I've had several over the years, always liked the short throw bolt on the Mark V. Used to be more enamored with the high velocity/ flat trajectory cartridges, not so much anymore.
Japanese Mark V in .270WBY 24" #1 barrel - It was a great long range deer rifle and relatively easy to carry. First shot cold always inside an inch of aim point. After that I think that thin barrel started to walk around. 5 shot group maybe 3". It was bedded, floated, and had a professional crown job. Might have benefitted from some fore tip pressure. Sold it, should have kept it just for the memories of mule deer hunts down south.

Japanese Mark V in .300WBY 26" #2 barrel- I used it a couple of years moose hunting but that 26"pipe was no fun tracking a moose through tight bush. Shot a young bull at 25 yards face on. The 180gr. Barnes X bullet went through his front shoulder, down the rib cage and through the rear quarter to the hide. Wrecked almost half of the meat. Not the gun or the bullets fault, just more gun than I needed. Sold it.

Vanguard series 1 in .270Win.- Love this rifle, the most accurate I have ever owned. Almost any load under an inch. It is a bit heavy but my old hockey knee limits how far I can tramp so it's not really an issue.

USA 6 lug Mark V in .338/06 ultralight- Great moose rifle. It is quite fussy about jump to lands space but once I found the sweet spot it will hold 1.5" groups. Packs quite a punch from the bench, funny you don't notice that poking at a moose. A buddy shoots F class with a heavy Remington in .308. He took one shot from the bench with it and handed back to me, " I don't need a flinch" was the comment.

My dad has one, MkV Ultralight in .300 Wby, California made. He could not get it to group, not even close to MOA, so sent it to their warranty gunsmith, replaced the stock, sent it back, still no good, back to the gunsmith, replaced the barrel, and since then it's shot very well. Last time I had it at the range I was a little low on ammo so to confirm point of impact with 3 different loads I shot one round of each and got a group under 1.5".
That was 150, 165, and 200 gr and the spread was mostly vertical so I was impressed.
But that rifle is no fun at the range.

I’ll be the odd man out here I guess…

I Iike the cartridges, but I’m just not a fan of the action and the stock. Too short of a bolt throw… lol. I’m used to my 96 and 98 actions.

The stocks are too curvy and shiny, I like my women like that, but not my rifle stocks. Lol

Don’t get me started on the vanguard and it’s 2x6 style stock…. I’m 6’2” and wear 2XL gloves and I find the Weatherby stocks to wide and unwieldy.

Give me a nice Husqvarna or early Brno with a slim svelte stock and lightweight barrel any day!

Different strokes for different folks eh?

Glad you guys enjoy the weatherbys, leaves more mausers for the me! 😂
