This fellow just happened to be hunting grouse at the same time I was... He took off and stopped behind a bush at 115 yards but I could see his chest through an opening. Grabbed my daughter's 6.5X55 and sent a 130 gr Barnes triple-shock through his chest, cut his hind leg off on exit. This is my first coyote, man he ran away fast!

Hey Crashman, recognize the rifle?

Troutseeker

Yes Troutseeker, I recognize that rifle rather well actually! Nice to see it draw some blood...it's no wonder it downed that song dog so well, it was on many coyote hunts with me and a buddy last winter.

Congrats! 8)

Wally, The fur is really nice on it, not too tick yet and with lot's of interesting shades and withish tips. I'm going to get it tanned and hang it on the wall in my reloading room!

Crashman, I really like the rifle, it is staying with me for good (until my daughter leaves home anyways...). Or maybe I'll get her a .30-06 in a few years so she has an "all-around" caliber, and I'll hang on to the Ruger for my younger girl, yeah that's what I'll do because I'm selfless...

You hunt grouse with a 6.5 swede.........

Ok, Ok, it was really my 11 year old daughter who was looking for grouse with an old Cooey .22lr... The yote came out at 20 yards and took off like a bat out of hell, I quickly grabbed the 6.5X55 from my 14 year old daughter and used that at 115 yards. At that distance the old Cooey might have been marginal and without a scope my middle aged eyes would not have seen the available shot in the underbrush... My other option was the .45-70 sitting in the truck!

And yes, Todbartel is correct, the Barnes TSX kill rather well. And they are really accurate. I am hoping my oldest girl will get a shot at a moose soon. I'll back her up with the .45-70, but if she hit's one where it counts I'm confident the small Barnes will do the job!

I know if I was a moose, I wouldn't want to take one through the heart... and I have little doubt it wouldn't make it, as these X's penetrate like a mofo
