Okay. You got me. .357 Sig is my next HG, but which one?

Just when I thought a MK23 was next, I am hung up on the total ###iness of the .357 Sig. I love wildcats and most of my rifles are customs and chambered to them. I even designed my own once. I didn't know the same was true for semi auto handguns. I am not excited about the extra work, especially since getting my Dillon 650, but the cool factor of this round has me interested enough to do it.

My girlfriend's, XD-40 arrived today so we rushed to the range at 3:00pm to shoot it. It's different but pretty comfortable to shoot. Feels nice in the hand. When I got home, I read the manual and it said, 9mm, .40 and .357 Sig. I thought what?? A $700 gun in 357 Sig?? Cool!

So, I hate the fact that I can't shoot double action on a fail to fire. I don't like that the bad guys can see if I have a loaded round (I know, weird huh?? :)), and I don't like the gritty, edgy feeling of the trigger safety mechanism or the heavy trigger in general, but the gun is still pretty cool, and the olive drab is sweet as hell.

Are there are any other options I should consider that would give me da/sa, a real hammer, a decent trigger and in a 4"...er?

Is the P226 the one with the DAK trigger that one the big contract? The HK USP was the runner up and only other handgun to survive 226??

I didn't know the HK USP was available in the 357 sig. Very interesting. I love my HK USP Match in 9mm. :D Now I just need a ###y drop leg holster for that one... oops. I'm hi-jacking my own thread. LOL.

I believe you can get the P226 in 357sig in normal SA/DA (check with TSE maybe) and the USP can be had with any number of trigger variants (again, the distributor will let you know what they have in stock).

can you buy a .357 sig slide and barrel that fits on a P226 9mm frame? just wanted to know...

Okay, if I was to get a Glock, it would have to be the 18. I was hot on the Glock at one time for one reason - the GAP, but now other gun makers offer them, including Springfield, so they have lost their allure.

If the Sigs are anything like the Glocks, it might be best to put the 357sig slide on a 40SW frame so as to use the same ejector (the 9mm ejector on a glock is slightly different that in a 40SW glock, which is why most recommend swapping ejectors when putting a 9mm slide on a 40SW glock). Because 357sig is, in essence, necked down 40SW brass, it is best to stick to 40SW ejectors. I might be wroing with the Sigs but that was the advice I got when investigating the idea for both Glocks and a single stack 1911 in 357sig.

The only USP that is available in .357Sig is the Compact, which is prohibited here. I would say that p226 is your best bet.

All P226 use the same frame. However, the .40 and .357 versions also use the same slide, so you can alternate between the two calibers by simply swapping the barrel. Even the mags are interchangeable.

What a guy needs is one of those tiny Glocks with the aftermarket ported barrel in .357 Sig to make it legal in a small package. That would be cool. I notice that most of the nicer sigs are prohibited.

I memory serves me correctly the .40 and the .357 take the same slide on the same frame, but the 9mm p226 wont take the .357 slide or barrel. There is an aftermarket option to run a 9mm barrel in your .357/.40

edit: Ops... capp325 explained it, kind of^^

Buy a 357 Sig barrel for your XD. It will work perfectly with the same frame and internals. It is certainly the cheapest option.

You'll find the trigger will smooth out with use :) , and if the bad guy is close enough to see the black on black loaded chamber indicator, just pistol whip his ass and be done with it!:D

For a restrike capability, go with the sig, I wouldn't mind one myself....

True, so true. :) That puts things into perspective nicely.

It's more the weird feeling of the trigger safety on the meat of my t-finger. It's like using a trigger with a sharp ridge in the center of its length. It cuts into the finger and I don't like that at all. It doesn't hurt, it just feels strange and uncomfortable compared to the nice match triggers I'm used to.

Yes I see bar-sto makes a drop in after-market 9mm barrel that drops into a 226/229 40/357 frame.

Has anyone done this, was it reliable? I'm thinking of doing this if it is.
