Hi,

A collegue gave me 8 old boxes of CIL ammo. I did not think that it was that old!
Can someone tell me something about this ammo? What year it was made?

I was wondering if it has any value?

might not be worth much but it sure is cool! if it was given to me id probably shoot all but one box and then save the last one complete. just because. then again, you never know what a collector will pay for some stuff. worth sniffing out a value before you make a choice

go to the gun show on the south shore (i believe it's nov 04--check lca-canada.com).
there are collectors there and full boxes are worth more to them.you might get 2x or 3x the value of a newer brand.
then you can buy 2x or 3x the amount that you sold...

I remember going into a hardware store with my Dad in the early 60's. The store had a display of Whiz-Bangs right on the counter beside the cash register. Obviously popular sellers...

I shot thousands of those Whiz-Bang 22's in the early years. They accounted for many, many ground squirrels and gophers.
That was quite good quality ammo in the day, until IVI took over. I had a Mossberg 151M with a B4 Weaver on top. It loved
the Whiz-Bang LR ammo. Dave.

Find a gun to go with it, a nice old Cooey, or a C.I.L. branded Anschutz.

That gun, and the CIL shotshell ammo, spent the first half of its life in a barn, top shelf of a tool box, handy for zapping barn mice without chewing up the floorboards. Bought it off the original owner, who couldn't use it for its intended purpose anymore, so it got tucked away for a couple of decades until I bought it.

I keep it to remind me there was a time when this was a free country.

Great ammo! I shot a lot of that stuff through my Gramps Cooey 600, lots of squirrels and 'coons died to that combo. Personally I would shoot it, especially on those days you are feeling nostalgic about your hunting history and remembering those people that got you started in it.
