My old friend Walter has an old Hi-Power MK1* thats coming to me (posted in the pistols section), but he also has this old luger...and has asked me to facilitate the sale of it (I don't have 12(6). )He said it was made at the mauser factory (?) Anyway, I'll let the pics tell the story. I have more detailed pics if there is something else I need to look for.

I'd like to know any history on the gun (Who used it, when, etc)
He'd like to know what he can hope to sell it for.

I appreciate any info you can give me :)

In that condition, I'd say $400 - assuming the bore is OK. The holster looks like a P38 soft-shell holster. Depending on the maker (and authenticity), it's worth $100-150, but typically would not have Luger in it.

The holster is worth maybe 120, tops. You rarely see the P.38 softshell holsters bring in the big bucks.

As far as the luger is concerned, I'm not too certain.

Gun looks real nice. These can REALLY shoot accurately if you just get used to the idea that they do NOT have a "mushy" trigger: they have a proper double-p-ull militaary trigger. Get used to it and do some really fine shooting.... and you will have lotsa fun, too!

The metal's a bit worn but the grip looks like it's still in good condition. Ask your friend if it's still a good shooter. If it is I may have a buyer for you. I'd imagine he'd pay somewhere in the $400's for it. (don't think they'd be interested in the holster though)

Kind of rough shape for that year of gun. Looks like its been through WW1. I think $400 could be fair on the low end. Up to $600 if the gun looks a lot better in person compared to the pictures.

P08 was made by Mauser in 1940. Main serial number will be found at the front of the frame. Major parts will also show at least the last two digits of that number, including the two magazines. If so, the pistol can be considered matching. Matched examples will always bring higher value than an example in similar condition which is not.

Luger's with matching magazine serial numbers increase the value of the firearm quite a bit from what I have heard.

I don't think a collector would rush out to buy it a $400 . I have seen much better at that price . If you wanted a Luger and don't have 12.6 status you could have it rebarreled to 5 or 6 " and reregistered as restricted .There is no shortage of 12.6 Lugers out there & if your friend gave you a good deal on it & you put a couple hundred into it you would have a nice Luger in your non 12.6 collection , & if you were to sell it you would have no problem getting a good price restricted & not 12.6 . There are far more non 12.6 holders out there that would like to have a Luger than there are non 12.6 Lugers .
As for the holster If it is a genuine P38 war time holster there should be markings on the back . There are repoductions out there that sell for $35.00 new on e-bay . But i've seen originals go as high as $250 US . IT is not the same as a P-1 holster

It is a shame the metal was degraded from staying in that holster too long.

That looks more like wear from lots of use. I've seen Lugers stored in holsters since 1918, and still in 99 to 100 % condition, just like it came from the factory. Maybe with the humidity in Ontario (As compared to the dry West), that changes things and if it was stored in a damp basement.
