Hello. I recently came in possession of some old winchester and an old marlin lever gun. There are quite a few resources online for finding the age and general value. But there are two, which im struggling to figure out what i have. I have to think they've been reblued. Does anyone know of any tricks for figuring that out? Theres a model 92 winchester 32-20 saddle ring carbine that is from 1920. There are no pits behind the bluing. The markings are all hard edged. The metal looks new to me. The wood does appear to be refinished. The marlin is similar. 1906 to 1915 marlin model 92 38-40 saddle ring carbine.
Can anyone point me toward a website or give some advice on figuring these things out?

Reblued and done badly with caustic bluing. Both are shooter grade, little collector value. They don't look otherwise abused so should make for good shooters. Originally they would have been finished with a mix of rust bluing, charcoal blueing, and colour case hardening depending on the part. If you wanted to correct what has been done, the caustic blue can be replaced with what should be there. Or enjoy as is. .32-20 is a nice little cartridge.

Thanks all. Great feedback. I have another 4 that look origional. One 25-20 saddle ring likely has 60% origional blue. I will post about them at a later date
