I need help to establish a value for an old Marlin 45/70 lever action i have.
Barrel-25" octagon
Blueing-not bad
Serial# 4760
This firearm also has two triggers (hair-trigger)The butt stock is in poor shape but overall the gun is in good condition. There are many pat. dates on the barrel. Please email pro@proutdoors.com for photo's.Thanks

Is this a 1895 model???
Is there a letter with that serial number?
With out pictures and a better discription , very hard
to give a value .
Not bad - ? that tells me nothing.

I think that your Marlin is an 1881 model as that serial number puts DOM as 1883. Pictures will help or barrel stamping information. The barrel length needs to be checked as it sounds like you may have measured incorrectly. Close the action drop a cleaning rod in, mark the rod at the end of the barrel and then measure the cleaning rod.

It is indeed a Marlin 1881.
I'm sure you can tell this but the rear stock is obviously a "replacement" one.
The barrel has most likely been shortened as has the mag tube as well.

The double set triggers are/were a fairly rare option on those though.

As far as being a Big collector the above mentioned info clearly hurts it's value.
I'd guess on the low end of the scale (500-ish perhaps higher) but hey a Collector that's gotta have it will often set the price anyways. I have seen a "good" 81 fetch almost 1500 Us though if that helps;)

It's a shame the Marlins never really attained the Values of the old Winchesters........

At any rate it's a fine old Marlin ! Thanks for the look !
