Old Military Photo

It might be a P17 given the bayonet but I think the P17 bayonets will fit either a P14 or a P17.

From my understanding P14 and P17s were retained during WW2 for training and home guard use in Britain.

A large number of US M1917 were sent to Canada under the Lend-Lease program and were used for training.

It might just be me but does anyone else see a faint painted band around the fore stock and hand guard ? I think the Brits used red paint for P17s but I do not know if the Canadians marked their rifles as such.

It is a US M1917 judgeing by the long grasping groove. About 100000 M17s were purchased by Canada, not Lend Lease. The P14 was little used in Canada.

It looks like a P17 to me as well. I have some old photos of my grandpa and his mates doing basic training in Chatham Ontario in 42. I had thought they were holding P17's but I think they are Ross MK II's.
