old model 12 info please

Hey guys

I just got my hands on an interesting old piece. It is a 12 gauge Nickel steel with a Mod choke dated at 1922. Butt wood is poor buth balles is good and the receiver has lost some bluing. I thought it is odd that a gun this old came with a mod choke. FS

Looks like Winchester choked the Model 12 with FULL MOD and CYL in the early years. My ref book ( The Model 12 by MADIS) claims that Winchester developed the chokes we now know as IMP CYL and IMP MOD later in Model 12 production. Model 12 12 gauge 30" FULL choked guns are by far the most common. Your gun is some what of a horse of a different clour but not super rare. Nice find. Re stock it and take it hunting. I saw a strange one in a shop in Thunder Bay years ago Model 12 12 gauge with a 28" factory stamped CYL barrel. Winchester called them brush guns in ref to the choke not the dimension of the gun. Should have bought it but then I should have married the young woman who's father owned a liquor outlet....

I have a 1938 with a 28'' modified choke that's the earliest 12 ga I have seen with a mod choke . Good find.
