After some serious looking , I finally found a 142a to add to the herd. It's the early model , with the wooden fore-grip , and T - bolt handle . It is my third T-bolt model . These old mossbergs can be addicting.

I am very fond of the older Mossberg rimfires, particularly the "M" models.
They are a very good quality firearm, and tend to be very accurate.

I have a 151 M, a 46 M and a 42 M, plus a 146 B and a 144 LSB [Very accurate]
My 146 B is a T bolt, but they were also made with a round bolt handle.

I had an interesting encounter at the local club range when I was shooting my
146 B. A fellow came to shoot at the rimfire range. He did not waste any time
telling me how he had spent over $1000.00 on his fancy 10-22 Ruger,
and how it was capable of shooting better than any bolt gun [especially an old
Mossberg like I was shooting]

I take that stuff with a grain of salt, but let him know that the "Old Mossberg"
was a pretty decent shooter. He challenged, I accepted. We agreed on 10 shots
for score at 50 meters. His score: 94/100, the "Old Mossberg": 96/100. He was
somewhat subdued for the rest of the time there. :)
FWIW, the Mossberg likes Lapua Master L, but I am getting low. Dave.

Yes, love the old Mossbergs. Have an example of the gun that started Mossberg and Sons - a Brownie 4 barrel pistol made in 1919. As I understand it is the third lowest serial number known to survive. Have many pre-war models but am looking for a Model L.

Must admit...caught that nasty Mossberg bug too...
Here's a few I've cleaned up, have a couple more that needs some TLC.
My heavy barrel 10/22 doesn't come close to any Mossberg I've fired.

nice

Does anyone know if the Mossberg model 46 M and 146B take the same inner magazine tube?
I am not sure which would require me to pull them out to compare but the part numbers are different - 46M is R220 & 146B is R225. They may work but the receiver ends are different.

You can't beat these old 22's, it is amazing how many you find in mint condition
One of the reason' s I used to buy them

At one point I had a dozen different models, some real early models like 26 single shots, thinned the heard and kept a 46B and 146BA, both have the original sights, good triggers, and function really well. The 46B has really nice dark walnut, the 146BA has nice wood but not quite as nice, but holds like a ridiculous amount of 22 shorts.

I have been looking for one for quite a while..if you ever want to sell it let me know!!

I picked up a Mossberg 46A many years ago but some SOB took the original sights off it and put these other ones on it . it has a beautiful trigger pull and the stock is really nice. when I shoulder it she just fits me perfect. only problem is it shoots 6 to 7 inches high but a tight group . raised cheek piece and a palm swell . old growth hardwood .

If it helps...

I believe the "46A" (1937-1938) used the No. 1A ramp front sight, No. 2 rear sight, No.

Plus maybe a few different combos.
