As I understand it, the RIA barrels (one of the first things to go on a factory Ruger 10/22 when people tinker with them) are not interchangeable with 10/22 aftermarket barrels?

The US has trade dress, we do not have the same rules. They were foolish to make them look so much like a 10/22

I've heard from a couple people that the barrels are interchangeable. Can anyone that's tried confirm that?

they arnt even attached the same way from what i understand.

Nope they slip in use a V Block like a 10/22 and are indexed, but the OD of the Ruger barrel is smaller then the RIA.
