I can't post pics thanks to photobucket so. A buddy had a guy bring him an old brass frame likely .36 cal Colt revolver in to look at serial # 990XX all matching. I have pics on my hotmail so can forward them to someone who may know about old Colts.Anyone know a Colt collector?

Colt in an antique format, did not produce a brass frame revolver of any kind. Unless it's something early cartridge firing rimfire, like a Colt cloverleaf revolver. So it's a modern replica or if bona fide antique, a Confederate copy of a Colt.

Well it is marked Colt Patent and has a brass backstrap and trigger guard weathered patina .31 or .36 percussion Googled lots of Colt BP revolver pics with this feature.I guess i shouldn't have called it frame.

Now you are on a roll sir.....

The five shooter Colts in 36 could be pocket navy with octagon barrel, round barrel in 1862 police model.

Another more common brass trigger guard six shooter would be 1851 octagon barrel and round barrel six shooter 1861.

Good luck sir.

Looks a lot like a Baby Dragoon .31 pic round trigger guard not square.Scroll work on the cylinder with square notches.

The guy also has an old invitation letter from a sheriff to attend a hanging in the Yukon ! Date and town unknown as I forgot to ask? Now that's a crime deterrent example for the public.
