Hi, fellow CGNers and I hope somebody can tell me what I have here. We bought a house built in 1921, and in a drawer full of junk in the basement workbench, I found this flip-up rear sight. (sorry for the poor photo quality, it's an old digicam).

I'm not sure if it's a Lee-Enfield, as it doesn't look "exactly" like the rear sight from a No 5, and I'm no aficionado, so don't know if there were variants:

or like any on this diagram:

.

(BTW, tip of the hat to the previous posters of these 2 pics on this forum... thanks!)

Plus, the marks are not identified as Lee-Enfield anywhere I can find online. There is a small symbol on the side, below the elevation hatch-marks. It resembles a crown, BUT WITH ONLY 2 LOBES. Kind of like a number 0 and a number 8 right side by side. and turned up so the 0 is on the bottom. Below this mark is a number 7 at right angles to the marking.

Does anybody have any ideas? Is it Browning?

Sight for a Mk. III Ross (1910) service rifle. It is missing its windage slide. Compare it with the photo Ardent posted.

Yup, as Tiriaq said; if you look closely on the second picture, you can see the small track in which the windage plate slides.
PP.
