Here are a couple of my Old school LE shotguns, top one is a 10g Ithica Roadblocker and the other is a Remington 11-87P.
I just love the look of wood furniture.

What I like about wood is that every piece is unique: even the most basic stock is different than the next one, because of all the grain patterns...plastic has no character, no soul!

But plastic does have its place, just not in my gun cabinet!!!

Tarn:

Then you should like this one. This was one of my builds. This is a sportsman 58 Action, with the felxi-tab system, "old stye finish" police wood, a police 20" barrel, with a VangComp +3 extension and follower.

On a lark I put it up for sale, and the next day it was gone. Oh well, hind sight.

Hope you like it

DA 870 clone, but yes... the moment i ditched the synthetic and installed wood furniture its like a new life was breathed into it :)
and thats crappy express wood to boot, the buttstock looks like it was carved with a chainsaw.
wood > synthetic

Did you have any problems fitting the Remington forend to the DA?

.

yes. the DA forend tube (the one that slides over the mag tube) is slightly oversized. dont try to just hammer your remington forend onto it or it can split the wood.
i took an aluminum broom handle, wrapped a sheet of i think 220 grit sandpaper on it (dont remember now) and shaved a thousandth of an inch off the inside of the 870P wood forend. it then fit like a glove.

i recommend that while you have the forend tube off, to either take a folded up scrap of 220 or perhaps a fine machinists stone and slightly chamfer both sharp inner edges of the forend tube (not the wood forend, the metal forend tube that comes with the DA Grizzly). the edge came a tad sharp/roughly machined from the factory and scratched up my mag tube before i did this. nothing to worry about, just a cosmetic thing. if you chamfer the inner edge by a hair when you have the forend off you will avoid this and itll ride the mag tube evenly.

Sure does. This one, if you ride it properly, it practically cycles itself. This is my preferred "old school" gauge.

Indeed, thank you Can-down. :D

I bit old, but many years of taking care of me as it has, is what I like best about this gauge.

Unless you dont mind spending lots of money on a original barel i would go with a Dlask one or even cheaper a 14 inch Norc one.

A bit late ... missed this the first time around ... and maybe this needs a bump.

Is that a 14" tube easy? If so, is it original to the gun? Curious as I've been looking for a blued OEM Remington 14"er myself...

Cheers,
hsld.

Yes, it is a REM OEM barrel. There's still some out there, but pricey these days. Ya just gotta look hard.
Be carefull not to land on a cut down barrel 'cause the blued short barrels were all CYL. bore. The date stamps on the barrel sometimes help determine authenticity.

Best.
