Hi All,

I have an older Springfield 1911A1 .45 ACP 2-port race gun w/ a C-more sight. It isn't fancy like the modern $5000 race guns, but it shoots great, and with the dot I can shoot pretty darn well with it.

But, I'm shooting my Standard division (upgraded Para 14-45) loads (Clays) through it right now, and I'm pretty sure that I'm not working the comp the way that I should.

I shoot Frontier 230gr RN.

Can anyone recommend a load that will get the comp working with these same bullets? I get a lot more muzzle-flash (and noise, and recoil...) with a Major load of Titegroup in my Standard gun, and that's what's in the XL650 right now. So I was going to start with a "stiff" Major load and see how that "extra" muzzle flash bahaved through the comp on the Race gun.

I've got Clays, Titegroup, HP-38, and others on the reloading bench. I don't have any Vit powders on-hand.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,

Sean

p.s. It's got an old-style non-ramped barrel. And the max Hodgden load of Titegroup is listed at 4.8gr on their webpbage. 4.6 makes major in my Standard gun.

Way back when, when I used my old comped 45 for open IPSC,I found that the load that worked well for me was the 155gr SWC(loaded to same OAL as a 200swc) and I used for powder either HS6 or SR4756.These are both slower than TG and work the comp well. This was in the days of the old 175 PF,so with the new, lower factors, you should easily make major.

in order the comp to work, try using a lighter bullet, a slow burning powder. my only experience with this combo is the V-3n37 and 170swc.
