Old School Sako 338Win (finally - pic is posted)

Congrats on the new shooting iron, pics and update once you've had it awhile would be nice.
I'm resurrecting this thread to show off the Sako I acquired this winter as discussed above with good input from friends here. I finally got it scoped (new Redfield Revolution 3-9x40) and ready to shoot. I took this pic yesterday at the range. For several reasons I couldn't shoot it yesterday but should later this week I hope.

It really fits me well and the old school quality is evident. It's not as handy a rifle as I'm used to - but I knew that of course. It weighs 8 3/4 lbs empty as pictured. I got the long range reticle to try zeroing at 200 and then using the 300yd, 400yd and 500yd reticle hash marks.

My first test loads are ready to shoot - ReL17 and IMR4350 behind the 225 Accubond bullet. I think I can get 2850 or possibly 2900 with ReL17. The magazine and throat seem about perfect for this bullet. With a COAL of 3.470" I'm .030" off the lands and the mag allows 3.500". It feeds well and I hope it proves accurate too. Time will tell.

As I mentioned, I think you will be very happy with the .338 WM. It is a fine hunting cartridge.

Sako 338Win - my first shots with this one

I'd say you're right. That Sako is sweet to shoot - fits me well. It's a lot more rifle than I usually shoot but oozes quality.

My first shots (IMR 4350 and 225 Nos AB) at 100yds were pretty good considering I only bore sighted (looking thru barrel) and immediately went to shooting at 100yds. Here's how it went.
First and second shot went far left then far right (see target).
1 - 70grs IMR4350 - 2692
2 - 71grs IMR4350 - 2757

Then I steadied better - using a soft gun case under my elbows to anchor them - doh. The last four went in between - more or less centred about 3"+ high - into about 1 1/4". Two of these overlapped.
3 - 72grs IMR4350 - 2793
4 - 72grs IMR4350 - 2789
5 - 72grs IMR4350 - 2781
6 - 72grs IMR4350 - 2774

Pretty happy and feel MOA potential is doable with this one. Made 2800MV with ReL17 also - going up from 65grs to 70grs. No pressures issues. Didn't shoot for group yet with it.
