I have a very nice marlin 795 that shoots very well,my only complaint is the trigger.I think they must have held a contest to see who could come up with the heaviest trigger and awarded first prize to the guy who did.

What surprises me is I was shooting an older marlin .22 magnum that had a very good trigger, light and crisp-why did they ever change it?Obviously they CAN make a good production line trigger, because the older models had it.

What are the first two digitals of the serial? That will tell us when it's made. I have one made in 2009 with a great light trigger. If it's brand new, it's likely one that was produced by Remington and probably sucks.

Remington bought marlin and closed down their plant. Marlin is actually dead, you see.

do heavy triggers ever smooth out with use? I read somewhere that applying some liquid polishing compound might help somewhat. The thing is-these aren't high end rifles ,and although I like it-as the gunsmith said-it hardly justifies spending a lot of money on.

I recently picked up a Marlin 981T for my son to plink with. He hasn't complained about the trigger. He's just happy to shoot!;)
I got a chance to shoot ~100rnds at one range session... just to check it out. For a rifle that cost just a little over $200 I was impressed with the accuracy(with a 3-9x40 Bushnell) and with the rifle in general.
IIRC the trigger pull is around 5-6lbs? That's about what I'm used to with my Glock and revolver, but I guess it's too much a rifle.

I like everything about my marlin 795-except the trigger.I just restocked it with a Boyds laminate thumbhole stock, and it is very accurate.I just don't know why they ruined a fine rifle with a heavy trigger like that-because the older marlins I've shot had nice triggers-there's no comparison
