I have an old steel tube K-4 weaver-clear enough, but the reticule is a bit finer than I'd like.I'd take it hunting, but don't want to risk it fogging up[which has never happened by the way]
My question is-how common in fogging in these old weavers -and is there any way to tell ahead of time-like putting it in the freezer or something?

I've tested scopes by doing the in-and-out of the freezer thing. It's not a total guarantee, but a very good indicator, of how the scope will perform in real life. Those old K-4 steel tubes are pretty good overall, BTW, lots of guys like them.

I have hunted with a Weaver K4 that is 40 years old.
I did not have any problems.

Even with very expensive gear, I take a back up rifle.
