Older 16 gauge imperials

Got a box of these...fired a few of them in an old double...after extracting..the brass case's were split on opposite sides of the case. the crimping opened as it should..wasn't swat or buggered..nice and even...I fired 5 shells...and they all split the brass.. (high brass)...maybe they are weak from old age? or what??? Never happened to me before...

I've had that happen a fair amount with a batch of the old paper ones like in the pic but usually just one split. I blamed the old SXS I shot them out of as being worn in the chamber. It never really caused a problem nor did I think it was dangerous so continued to use them but that is your call.

They call them "Purple People eaters" for a reason.

I have shot many thousands, one in 50 would split fairly common occurence, age is not kind to imperials.
