It happened that I currently have both older and newer Marlins 70pss at the same place so I can compare them.
They are mostly the same, but there are couple differences.
1. The older marlin has plain aluminum receiver. The newer model has lacquered one - looks a bit nicer.
2. The older one is almost one inch shorter!

Overall quality is about the same (didn't shoot the newer one yet, but will soon).

Please see photos below (sorry, they are big)

The most surprising (to me) part: both came without a user manual and without a spanner wrench.

I just picked one up on Monday, I had sold off my old papoose a few years back and I have regretted it ever since. I do like the synthetic and stainless more than the blued metal and wooden stock that my old one had, I just need to get to the range with it to try it out.

Oh, and I desperately need to find more mags for it, one 7 rounder is not going to cut it.

Scriptguru, mine was new, still in the box and it included the soft sided carry case, barrel wrench, manual and a lock.
