I was looking at a Beretta s57e shotgun today that was for sale ,I almost convinced myself to buy it and A old fellow told me to stay away from it cause you can't get parts for s57e .He said its obsolete ,then I told him I had a s55,his reply was get rid of it.Should I panic or was the old fellow off his rocker?

Those old berettas were put together really well. Probably will never need parts. In case you are feeling a little panic, I will give you my address and all the particulars and you can transfer it to me.

They are definately keepers, especially in small bores.

Most of the guns I shoot never had spare parts available, certainly not now 100 - 130 years later.

Only new guns break;)

I turned down buying an S57E for the same reason ... no parts readily available in North America. I could have bought it a couple of years ago for $800 and it was in good shape. If you aren't going to shoot it much, it might be a good buy.

I have many older Beretta's including a 55 and a 57 and have had the 57 repaired once in the eighties . In Montreal you can always count on Dante Sport for all of your Beretta repairs. They are great guns and would buy another if I did not already own them all.

I purchased an S55E new in 1972 for $279.00 at the Montreal Gun Show, it was my only shotgun for many years. Sometime in the 80's Bill Long the former Winchester gunsmith in Coburg opened the chokes up from M/F euro standards to IMP/MOD US standards, works great with slugs, and everything else(never steel). I have owned dozens of shotguns since 72, the only two I have now are the S55E and a BL4 I picked up in the 80's. I have never had a problem with any of my Beretta o/u's, and there have been quite a few.

I have spent ridiculous amounts of money at Dante's and his service to me is unbelievable. It is possible that he will service his better clients before a new customer but I know he is a straight shooting guy and he always has Beretta parts somewhere in that mess of a shop. The question is if they are willing to spend the time looking for the parts for a new customer.

selling my S56E only because I prefer sxs's, the S56E is a great handling and shooting gun.
Also have model 409 12 and 16ga. and a model 471 on the way.

The guy sounds like a nut. Those guns were built to last a lifetime. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one, and I own several older Beretta's, including a 56E. Sometimes people confuse old guns with lawnmowers.

I had the use of a BL in 12 gauge those chokes were tight and tighter, guess it would have been a great long distance fowling piece or a turkey killer. FS

Are you serious? I prefer tighter. Mine is just full and modified. Although I have heard they did some in tighter chokes. You don't own it, do you?
