older DEWAT is it still OK to own

this is the problem with dewats there not in the criminal code. there is no legislation. it is all left up to the crime lab to determine. thats when you get your day in court .
and your lawyer bill. don’t forget were all guilty hostiles, they just haven’t proven it yet.

if they have a record of what has been done to it ,it is a criminal offence to alter it

Sorry, but this doesn't compute. If it's not in the criminal code, it's not a criminal offense. And if there's no legislation at all, what could you ever be charged with?

The last thing we need is yet another section created in the Criminal Code.
Obviously reactivating a dewat would be illegal.
But apart from that, there is no legislation.
As far as the RCMP guidlines go - if the thing is registered, it will not be recognized as a dewat unless they accept it as deactivated, according to whatever standard they may from time to time decree. Gotta play the game according to their rules.
But there is nothing defined in law. Nor should there be.

Then why does a certain dealer on here have the disclaimer that deactivations cannot be altered in all his EE posts?
I have yet to see the law on that and wonder if one even exists.

Probably a disclaimer to protect the business in the event that one of his dewats were to turn up remanufactured to functional condition.

Must be. But it is a pretty bad case of make up rules and enforce them and that type of bull#### is why folks out there still think handguns are illegal to own, bayonet mounts need to be ground off and bolt actions are limited to 5 rounds.
