Has anyone come up with a solution for older eyes on a Stevens Favourite rifle - I am not adverse to drill and tap for either aperture sight on receiver, or scope bases - I am not too nuts about drill and tap into a barrel, but I suppose I can do that with some planning and thought.

I have a couple that were originally in 25-Stevens that have had Redman liners installed and now use .22 Long Rifle - so I was thinking about how I could use either aperture sights or a modern rimfire scope, instead of that barrel mounted rear sight - getting hard to see that one any more. One is marked as Model 1915 and the other is earlier than that - so maybe drilling is just not a good idea from the get go. I did come up with a Parker Hale "swing away" version of a peep sight - a PH 16 N - thank you CGN - that simply clamped on to the dovetail of a BRNO No. 1, so maybe cutting a dovetail might be the solution, versus drill and tap.

Let me know of solutions that you are aware of that have been done.

Thank you for suggestions - I am not so sure about those type that replace the rear sight - but that staff type Lyman style looks interesting - appears that the tangs on the Steven Favourite 1915 are already drilled and tapped for that kind of rear sight - so I will just have to try to find one, somewhere.

You might try Track of the Wolf. They used to have a lot of sights like those. I think based in Minnesota.

You could try one of the Hi-Lux reproduction

Hi-Lux reproduction scopes - I might get there, yet - I have to figure out how those mounts work on a detachable barrel, but it certainly has "the look".

I’m not much into the Favourites, just not my thing, but this is what I did to the one that I have. It’s a Winchester 67 barrel that I had a friend fit to my Favourite, I also have a shorter barrel with open sights, so it’s a switch barrel. Can’t remember what bases we used, maybe Leupold? They aren’t a perfect fit, but pretty close to the correct contour. The front base is shimmed. IMG_1361.jpg]

Yes, I think the 3/4" fits nicely on there. It's a Weaver j2.5 with plain crosshairs, fairly fine. It's enough for me to git the occasional gopher out to around 40 yds. Weights about the same as two and a half feathers.
