Can everyone help me out here, the long time debate about steel shot and full choke. I recently bought a used Russian over/under, found out the previous owner had shot steel shot and slugs through it, did a bit of research online and found people saying that these Russian guns are tough and will take it, but I remember when steel was introduced that they said you shouldn't. Any thoughts?
It's a Tulsky Orhuzeiny Zarod TOZ-34
Thanks in advance!!

I don't have that exact Russian shotgun, but I do have a Baikal MP153 that I use exclusively for waterfowling with steel shot. I just had a look & ALL the choke tubes that I have for it, IC/M/F/XF are rated STEEL!!!

Now, having said that, I would NOT be comfortable shooting steel through anything tighter than the Modified tube, which technically should give a Full pattern. Steel does not 'compress' at all & I am unsure how the heck the Russian shotgun makers can make the claim that it's okay to fire steel through these tighter chokes.

Others will chime in with their experience, but I personally would not fire steel through your Russian shotgun unless it was choked Cylinder/IC/Modified...

Cheers
Jay
