Hey guys~I'm toying with the idea of buying an 870P because I like them....but...also as an 870 "platform" to add a VR barrel for clays/hunting. Having had some trigger time with an 870P in recent months, the closest thing I could compare it to IS a Wingmaster in terms of fit/finish/smoothness. Anyhow, the 870P I want comes with rifle sights and it got me thinking about the possibility of trying to track-down a Wingmaster slug gun and going that route. Do any of you have one, and, how have you found the accuracy? Ever thought of selling? :) Would love to see some photos for inspiration.

Not sure if it's old enough, but I've got a late '70's 12 bore Brushmaster/Wingmaster I bought new. 20" smooth bore improved cylinder with rifle sights, polished blued, nice walnut with pressed checkering. Shoots just fine for west coast mulies. Top quality and build for an American pump. I'd recommend it, but sorry, it's not for sale... ;-)

Send it over! lol

Minute of deer at 100 yards. Nice guns if you can track one down .

That's a 870 20 gauge on the bottom in a Boyds stock.

An 870P is identical to an 870 Wingmaster except for the finish and stock. If you buy a Wingmaster now, it'll just cost you more. Buying any 870 and a slug barrel is likely your best bet. There's more aftermarket stuff for 870's than you can ever think exists too.
Wingmasters have not always been a higher end shotgun. Bought mine(unribbed, 30", FC barrel. Cut to 18 3/8" with no sights and an extended mag tube.) in the early 80's when Eaton's got out of firearms. It ain't nothing special(pretty much the same as REM3200's top one). Put a 20", rifle sighted, phosphated, smooth bore, barrel on it several years ago. Being a bunch thicker, it is considerably heavier than the 30" duck barrel that split at the muzzle.
How well the they depends mostly on the ammo. You can expect 2 or 3 inches at 100 yards with slugs it likes though. Pump guns are like that.

Hey guys~thanks for the photos, and replies. Greatly appreciated. Yes, as stated...looking for and 870 of Wingmaster quality...but not married to the the polished blue/glossy walnut on this one. I have Remingtons that fit that bill already. So, when I got some trigger time with this 870P (the exact gun, and my ugly...misshapen leg in the photo below)..I felt like I'd found my gun. The ability to add an 870 VR barrel (used, 28" with Remchoke) makes it an even more attractive option. Other than target shooting, the mag extension serves no purpose....but I like it. And the matte black. So...rambling now...but if picking-up an over-priced Wingmaster slugger and getting a mag extension for it brings me within $200-$300 of a new 870P, I'll just hold off and get one of those.

Heck...I even like the vintage walnut my buddy tracked down for it! Man this was a fun gun to shoot. And SMOOTH!
