I have a oly arms 9mm ar upper with an 10.5" barrel and the long 5 inch flash hider to make it legal length in the states. Since I live up here, I'd love to remove this unit, but they where attached "permanently" at the factory, but I'm not sure how. Does anyone have any experience removing these things? Oly arms themselves don't seem to bother with things like answering e-mail, so I'm hoping to get some information here;)

Thanks all

Oh @#$@#%@#$, I was hoping it was silver soldered or something. It sure isn't pinned. Would they thread it on and weld it or just sweat it on? Looks like I'll be pulling the barrel and taking it to work to put in the lathe......

The Olympic ones are usually silver soldered on. One rather nasty way to get it off is to just take a dremel with a cutting wheel to the flash hider and carefully cut it lengthwise. If you hunt around on the American boards you should be able to find some how to guides from 2004 when everybody was all in a tizzy about getting rid of their muzzle breaks in order to put flash hiders on.

not yet, too many things on the go. It looks to be silver soldered, so I think I should be able to take off the fore grips and warm it up good and spin it off. Further bulletins as my laziness warrents\.....

I never put a heat source to barrels (other than rounds down the tube)What kind of heat source?? is a propane torch for plumbing good enough?? any chances of damaging the barrel from the heat??

Well I called Olympic, the flash hider is pinned on and the pins are welded into the muzzle brake, he said silver soldering is not good enough for the ATF, he said a guy (from Canada, I believe) tried to turn down the brake and remove the pins, he (Olympic) didn't want to repeat the imageries that the fellow used to explain the process     he got it off but was a serious hasle. Best solution is cutting the barrel down and re-threading.

For now I will cut the FH off just a hair forward of the muzzle, it really does not need a FH so this will do until I send it out for cutting and threading.
