I own an Oly and find it quite nice to shoot.

As a build gun I don't recomend it as the reciever is not "milspec"

by that I mean it won't match up to other manufactures uppers without some fitting.

I don't know if this is true of all Oly's but it certainly is for the builds I've seen done with them.

That being said with a bit of filling on the rails and the front pin area you can usually get another upper to fit.

YMMV

The one I had was an 10.5" barrel with a carry handle upper.

The rifle worked fine for a time I used it. I got it used and put about 1500 rnds through it.

In it's origional config "SOME" other reg uppers would fit on it.

When I decided to rebuild it with a FF front end and a flat top upper I tried 2 different manf. and could not get any to work properly.

I still have the stripped upper and complete lower, just have to find a use for it.

Maybe a Glock 9mm conversion.:)

Olympic Arms are the bottom of the barrel; none cheaper, or more cheaply made. They are cast, stay away; nuff said. It's like drinking, Maddog 20/20 will get you drunk just as a good Scotch will, but are you seriously going to drink Maddog 20/20? If all you can afford is an Oly, then you need to save up. Don't do an AR half-a*sed. It's just not right.
