Olympic Arms lowers

Are Olympic Arms Rifles Mil-spec? Bought a lower of a feller here, and now I am wondering what I need in terms of an upper.

The beauty of the AR platform is you can mix and match to your hearts content, you can buy any brand upper and it should fit, as long as the caliber matches your lower.

Not so with the Oly arms rifles though. Mine would not fit with any other upper except an Oly.
I've heard that some of the newer ones will work but AFAIK, all the older ones would not mix and match with other brands.


That being said, it can be made to work with some careful use of a file on the lower.

Their cast lowers, which they haven't made in 5 years, aren't mil spec. Their forged ones are fine.

Ahh that makes more sense. I'd heard that the new lowers were better.
I bought mine as a complete rifle and only encountered problems when I went to change the upper to a flattop.

Hopefully the OP's is of a newer design.

My forged Olympic Arms lower is NOT "fine". It is very tight with the Oly upper it came with, and won't work with 1 out of the 3 Colt uppers I own.

I had no fit problems with an Oly Arms lower but I did find some of the internal parts were "soft" and had to be replaced.
