Well since somebody jumped the gun and locked my other thread I'll try to find a way to ask my question without offending the people higher up :nest:.

The media is reporting that an SKS was used in the Omaha shooting yesterday. Do you think this will fuel the fire of the antis? They already seem to think the SKS is an evil assault rifle (moderators please note that I DO NOT BELEIVE THIS) and I guess bad publicity won't help our cause. I would also like the moderators to note that I own an SKS and I've put a lot of time into cleaning it and refinishing the stock so I have no interest in having the SKS banned. I'm just afraid that this will just be another reason to paint us as evil gun owners.

I hope none of this post was misunderstood...

What I think is that the weapon used doesn't matter and that the real problem is the nut behind the bolt. When was the last time you heard of a drunk driver killing a child and that is must of been the Pontiac Grand Am's fault and that automatic cars should be banned. People agree that in that case it's the drunks fault... Ah well, long live the SKS.

yesterday they said it was a SKS type and today they said its a AK47,
IIRC the same thing happened in florida 6 months ago , they tend to pick on the SKS for some reason, whether its cheap or something else , who really knows?

all i know are , i own 5 and i not worried cos its not an assault , its not even remotely close to an AK47 so for someone to say they are related is totally wrong. SKS dont not have a pistol grip nor does it come with a banana mag and it never has a select fire.

"Robert A. Hawkins, 19, opened fire at 1:42 p.m. Wednesday. Warren said surveillance video shows Hawkins entering the second level of Von Maur about six minutes before police received the first call for shots fired. Warren speculated that at least 30 rounds were fired from an AK-47 rifle. Warren said he believes the weapon was stolen from Hawkins' stepfather. Warren said the gun had to 30-round magazines with the ability to fire off rounds quickly."
