Hey everyone,

I found one of these for sale and I am wondering what they are valued at. I can't seem to find any for sale anywhere else. The guy is asking 700 but he is willing to let it go for 450 shipped.

-The rifle has the heavy barrel which has the black mountain stamp

-The is a scope mount installed, but not a vary good one.

-Stock isnt great but there doesn't appear to be any cracks or chips

-The finish shows use.

-No sights.

I would like to buy it and put peep sights on it but I don't want to overspend.

Without an adapter, probably at about that. Paid $400 for one with sights, case handstop. Without the barrel adapter they are worth no more than that. Locking lugs were in the barrel on them.

The original barrel can be made into an adaptor (Neilson type) while still screwed into the action. One of the main problems is that Sportco's have lousy primary extraction. $400-$450 would be in the ballpark if it had iron sights.

Thanks for the info. Due to the lack of peep sights I think I'll pass this one up. I don't see there being any more room in negotiations.

I can see the $700 price with Central peep open sites and $450 without them.
Sportco 44 has a lot good things going for it like unmatched stiff receiver (stiffer than most custom actions available today) super fast lock time, very secure strong and safe lock, 60deg bolt lift, it's easy to scope if needed and some of them came with S&L made in Denmark barrels.
Also removable bolt head (like Savage's) excellent target trigger (and unlike the Remington's 700 bolt handles don't separate under the pressure) and trouble free design.
IMHO Sportco's are way undervalued and I wouldn't exchange one for two Remington 700s.
GR8 2c worth....
