So my brother in law brings over his spare 870 for me to borrow/repair. I swear he must have kept it in the sump pump well. The reciever was patterned with rust like creeping charlie.

Two hours later, and a whole lot of Hoppes #9 and breakfree, it looks like a gun again. No pitting that I can see, but I suspect a trip to the beadblaster and park tank are in it's future.

Fortunately i also had a spare stock and forend, as they were both busted in one way or another.

Now I just have to find a spare trigger guard or complete trigger plate assembly, as his was damaged when he had to remove a trigger lock without a key. It was the cheap plastic trigger guard and a chunk broke off.

Kind of sounds like they one my uncle gave me last week. After excessive treatments of gibbs penetrant and lots of steel wool. Its clean. Mind you its so flaked it looks like its been in a snow storm. Also has a mismatched re drilled 1100 stock. My neighbor wanted to make a riser out of it but screwed up i had to fill it with JB weld... plus i added a way off size but pad...

All in all the gun works great and its gonna be my bunny getter. It shoots very straight and i dont care if i drop or scratch it since it wont be noticable.
Good luck with yours
