?? on .455 webley modified to .45ACP

I would like to know if those .455 webley MkII revolver modified to .45 ACP can still chamber the .455 webley cartridge?? This question might seem ''DUMB'' for those who know, But It would like to know what are the modifications done to the cylinder, and if its major to the point the original cartridge can no longer be chambered and used??

I believe the modification turned down the back of the cylinder to allow the full and half moon clip. Without a spare cylinder, I'd consider it a one wau conversion.

Won't work, I tried it.

The cylinder on a .455 is shaved off at the back 1/16" to allow for the half moon clips and the 45 ACP to work.

If you chamber regular .455 cartridges, they will now be 1/16" ahead of their original position, in actual fact, they will move backwards and forwards rattling against the recoil shield. When you pull the trigger, the hammer drops and pushes them forward, sometimes igniting the primer, sometimes not, or usualy the firing pin just simply wont reach far enough forward to reach the primer.

So somebody (not me) who was thinking (I don't think too often), came up with a great idea and invented '45 Autorim' cases. These are a kind of a .455 cartridge with and extra thick (1/16" extra to be exact) rim so they will load like a standard .455 but work with a shaved cylinder.

So to answer your question by going all the way around the houses and back, no, it won't work, you need .45 Autorim.
