I'm thinking your most likely options are:
1. Purchase a new (or used) Norinco M14S of which the receiver is quite good. While the finish is rough, they are more mil-spec than the most commonly available US made M14 clone by springfield and significantly cheaper. When Marstar has them they sell for $400; great value even just for the receiver. While Marstar is out of stock, demand drives up price and they sell for $450 and northwards for a used one.
2. Look for a Springfield M1A receiver. This will be more difficult/more expensive than building off a Norinco receiver, as a new springfield (complete gun) will set you back ~2k$, used approximately $1700. While alphacasting out of Montreal makes their receivers, I am not aware of any receivers only available from them. Finish on a Springfield receiver is hands-down better than a chinese receiver, but by any other yardstick my vote goes to the chinese guns. I own several of each and while the springfields look nicer, my USGI re-builds on chinese receivers shoot better.
3. Import an LRB (www.lrbarms.com) receiver through Questar. Definately the cadillac of the M14 clone world, they certainly sell just their receivers but man are they expensive. $965US for just the receiver + a couple of hundred bucks to bring her in.

You need some basic tools to take-off the barrels and flash hiders but check if somebody in your area has them before buying them.
RifleDude's method works. The sale of the surplus M305 parts will offset the cost. Or keep some extras as spares. I suppose there is always the chance that Marstar might have a stripped receiver.
Keep the M-14 receiver to preserve your 12(3) status, if you don't have another CA.
