My order of Black Sheep (a CGN sponsor) brass arrived.

I needed once fired brass for a project. It comes in boxes of 2,000 pieces. Each piece is cleaned, sized, de-primed and trimmed.

Cost is around 10 cents a piece.

I get to specify the headstamp I want. 99% of this brass is Remington.

That’s nice you can specify head stamp.

On a side note, how does the Remington brass compare to most of the other common plinker brands?

I want a brass that did not have any crimped primer pockets. Remington was available in quantity and un-crimped.

I will be making 6,000 rounds of match ammo for a ORA program involving teaching newbies how to shoot. We have scoped Savage rifle on bi-pods for them to learn with. Each newbie is paired with an experienced shooter as an instructor.

Brian (Mr. Black Sheep) sent me this note:

The brass has had the following steps done to it. For reference, my manufacturing tolerance is approximately 0.002" so any numbers are set up based on that. You received 2% above 4,000. My estimated processing defect rate is usually less than 0.5%.

Berdan primer/ foreign object debris check
Pressure check (crack check)
Deprimed
Ringer check
Full length resized (SAAMI - Negative 0.002" +/- 0.002")
Trimmed (1.748" - 1.750" +/- 0.002") (you may see shorter than this occasionally as some of the brass is coming from factory below this)
Neck tension 0.221" +/- variations for neck thickness
Optical sorted - 98%< R-P

Headstamp is typically what is mostly available. If I have mostly Remington coming through then I program the sorter for it. If it is FC17, then that is what is programmed into the computer for sorting.
