All,

I made the mistake of buying some once fired .308 brass. I say it's a mistake because I don't have a FL .308 die, only neck sizing.

So, as you can probably guess, these cartridges are a tight crush fit in my chamber. I can close the bolt (Tikka 595), but it does require force to do so.

*edit*
By the way, they aren't binding at the base. I resized the bases using a .30-06 FL die.

Safe, or unsafe?

You are sure the cases necks are not too long and you are not jambing the case neck into the leade?

Also if it is in fact the case body that is too long or "fat" there is a good chance it may not extract easily after firing.

Buy a FL die because even starting with cases fired only in your rifle there will come a time when even they will have to be full-length sized.

Yup, I'm trimming and beveling the cases, neck sizing, and seating the bullets to SAAMI specs as well as factory crimping. Body width is not an issue, as the cases slip into the chamber smoothly without force. I'm 110% certain that it's the shoulder jamming against the chamber. If I smoke the cartridges, it's pretty clear where the problem is.

Either buy an fl die or start fire-forming, but that means a trip to the range and gosh, it's warm outside, guess the chores have to wait.

Sounds like you answered your own question, you need a full length sizing die  trimming your cases is a waste of time because as soon as you FL size them they will change legth, this is why we trim after sizing.
Good Luck

Buy a Redding body die. You can run your loaded rounds thru it. It sizes the case and bumps the shoulder back without touching the bullet.
