Wondering how everyone shoots, with one eye open or with both open? I've seen people shoot both ways, personally I prefer both eyes open. Please explain your choice.

I shoot handguns 2-handed, right eye closed. It's weak, non-dominant, astigmatic and blurry, even with corrective lenses.

With long guns, I close the left eye and use the crappy eye. I'm right handed, so it's the only choice I have.. unless I want to learn to shoot lefty.

some people can't do two eyes open, don't know why, but it's not uncommon. But yes two eyes open does have advantages over one, especially in action shooting games, and of course in real like scenarios even more so.

If your really lucky and are right handed but left hand dominant shooting with both eyes open is all but impossible. I've tried and tried, end up cross eyed, and missing. :D At least with one eye I can miss consistently!!

Both eyes, firm grip, thumb over thumb, squeeze don't pull, hang on, don't think or breath in last second, watch the result. Repeat but don't release your grip.

I shoot with my left eye wide open, and my right eye slightly closed to better focus with my left. Although it is still open enough for acquiring the next target.

I am left eye dominant and right handed and have no trouble shooting handguns with both eyes open. The handgun is easy to compensate, all you do is hold it a bit more to the left. I prefer both eyes open.

Rifles on the other hand are a bit different. I either shoot right hand with my non-dominant eye open and left eye closed (otherwise I do get cross sight picture) or shoot left hand with both eyes open (preferred method).

Cheers

I'm right handed and left eye dominant. With handguns, I usually close my right eye, sometimes just part way closed. Always use my dominant left eye for handgun sighting (whether using two hands or one). For rifle, both eyes open, right eye through the scope, left eye also on the game. Might sound screwed up, but has worked for me for twenty years.

Just recently considered getting into action shooting and I think I will need to adjust for both eyes fully open with a handgun. This could take some practice as I get some serious sight shift when using my right eye.

Any tips on training the non-dominant eye to become dominant? A friend of mine had laser surgery and he was then able to use both, no longer had one eye more dominant than the other? Sounds strange to me, is it possible?

you can still use your left eye as the dom eye, with your right eye open. not a big deal at all. you just have to get used to it is all, and that can take awhile, but it's just practice, practice, practice.

I'm right handed, left eye dominant. Shoot rifle with right eye, left eye closed. Shoot handguns with left eye closed, mostly. I can use both eyes if I acquire the front sight first by squinting the right eye a tad. Once I've acquired the front sight with my left eye, I can open both eyes to line up the rear sights. It seems slow and works okay for target shooting. I don't know how this technique would word for action shooting where one may have to acquire the target and get off rounds quickly. For rifle I haven't tried this as both my rifles are scoped.
